AIA East Tennessee, chaired by MHM’s Design Director, Richard Foster, invites you to join them to celebrate the importance of architecture and the power of design in creating the places that give shape to our stories, our lives, and our communities.

Hosted by AIA East Tennessee in partnership with a number of allied organizations, [Knoxville] By Design is part of National Architecture Week, celebrated each April in recognition of the birthdate of this nation’s only Architect-President, Thomas Jefferson on April 13.  To read more about [Knoxville] By Design and view a full list of events visit knoxbydesign.org.

Design Slam is a fast paced, live design competition held annually as a part of Knoxville By Design. In conjunction with the Community Collaborative, this year’s competition focused on innovative concepts for redeveloping the alleyway at Speedway Circle in Historic Burlington. Unlike previous years, teams this year were composed not only of architects, but also landscape architects, interior designers and various makers.  Team ‘Squeakywheels’, which included MHM employees Adam Buchanan and Kevin White, took home the People’s Choice Award for their project ‘Timecircle’ which explored Knoxville’s relationship to transportation.
